Stepping into summer is the perfect time to reevaluate goals and implement changes that contribute to your life positively. What better way to reset than by bringing importance back to your mental health? Not only does your mental health affect your mind, but it also affects your physical and social health, ultimately improving your relationships with yourself and others. Finding the balance between your physical and mental health can be tricky at first, but diving deep into your emotions that arise and finding goals and purpose to pour yourself into can make just the difference.
Establishing balance
Learning how to regulate your emotions and make sense of them is an important skill. While many people think that emotional balance has to do with always being happy, this is not the case. The realistic approach is that happiness is not permanent, and it is okay to feel sad, angry, nervous, and more. These emotions are part of everyday life. The regulation and balance is learning how to feel these emotions and not bottle them up inside. Bottling emotions up can just lead to more outbursts later down the road. So, how do you acknowledge your emotions?
Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Recognize how you're feeling physically and emotionally. Why is this?
Acknowledging that you’re feeling sad, angry, or anxious can help turn your reaction from responding unconsciously to responding productively.
Being mindful can help you regulate emotions. You can practice mindfulness through meditation, yoga, and exercise. Additionally, the regulation of eating healthy and sleeping will contribute to a healthier body and mind.
Finding hobbies and goals
Not only is managing your emotions important, but finding new hobbies and goals to pour yourself into can be beneficial. Helping other people or finding your own joy can lead to an overall purpose for all. It can also help you realize what truly matters in life and how you can contribute to that difference. So, how can you find new hobbies and goals?
Overall, through establishing emotional balance and finding new goals and hobbies, you can transform your mental health and feel in a better place. With an improved state of mind, this directly influences your physical health and your relationships with others. So, this month, focus on habits that improve your mental health!
